Reversible rep-weave placemats and matching napkins designed for Rigid Heddle and Multi Shaft Looms!
Weaving for everyday life brings a special kind of satisfaction. Placemats might be my favorite kind of project to weave. They’re practical, quick to weave, and they give you a reason to show off beautiful yarn and bold patterns.
When Home for the Holidays Placemats were first designed, it was important that they felt seasonal, but also easy to use all year long. Something classic and versatile…and of course, they had to include our new Egyptian Cotton Cord!
The design structure for the Home for the Holidays Placemats will be rep-weave, a structure that creates a lovely, ribbed texture that stands proud in the finished fabric, and the placemats hold up beautifully to daily use.
The yarns we will be using are Aurora Earth 8/2 Cotton in the warp and weft, paired with our brand-new Egyptian Cotton Cord as the bulky weft. This braided cord creates smooth, rounded ribs, giving the placemats more presence and texture without feeling stiff or overly heavy.
And then there’s the best part! The placemats are reversible, with each side showing a different stripe personality. One side has a crisp, classic look, while the other brings in more movement and playful stripe energy. Same warp, same weaving sequence, two totally unique faces. I love a project that gives you options!
And because good placemats deserve good company, I also designed a pattern for matching napkins.
For the napkins, we kept it simple, weaving them entirely with Aurora Earth 8/2 Cotton. They use the same stripe sequence as the placemats, so the set feels connected, thoughtful, and beautifully intentional.
