These towels are a great way to pay respect to the weavers who have gone before us by using a draft from the Viking era (analyzed by Agnes Geijer).

It is a wonder how weavers in the tenth century managed to weave this twill on the relatively primitive warp-weighted looms of that era.

This weaving kit includes all the yarns needed to weave these Viking Era Towels that were designed by Gunnel Oresjo for Handwoven Sept/Oct 2009.  You will receive natural plus one color of our Aurora Earth 8/2 Cotton to weave six hemmed towels 16" by 24" each. Choose your color in the drop-down menu.

Weave Structure: 2/2 broken point twill.

Equipment needed: 4-shaft loom; 17” weaving width; 12 dent reed (24 epi); 1 shuttle.

Yarns: Aurora Earth 8/2 Cottons in natural and the color of your choice.

Finished size: six towels 16” x 24” hemmed.

Instructions needed: You will need to download, Viking Draft for Towels Digital Pattern for complete full color instructions.

You can also find these instructions in the Best of Handwoven: Top Ten Dish Towels on Four Shaft eBook available from Long Thread Media.

This kit contains the yarns needed but you will need to purchase the pattern separately if you don't already own the Handwoven Sept/Oct 2009 issue.
