Handywoman Boat Shuttles – Handmade with Heart

These beautifully handcrafted boat shuttles are made by Handywoman, a woman-owned small business dedicated to creating quality weaving tools at prices that support and grow the weaving community. Since 1998, Janet Fox—aka Handywoman—has been designing and making affordable, functional tools for weavers of all levels. Each shuttle is made to order in her busy workshop using sustainably sourced, recycled, or downed woods, offering a unique combination of beauty, sustainability, and practicality.

Beautifully Original: Every shuttle is one of a kind, shaped by hand and full of character. Small imperfections in the wood are embraced as part of the process, never affecting performance—just adding to the charm of a tool made with intention. These are not factory-made replicas; they are real tools made by a real weaver who understands what weavers need.

Craftmanship: Expect excellent craftsmanship, great value, and the satisfaction of supporting a passionate maker. These boat shuttles are perfect for weavers who want tools that work hard, look beautiful, and carry the story of a maker who truly cares.

Standard Boat Shuttle: This shuttle is 12" long, 1.5" wide, 1.5" tall and uses 4" bobbins.

Rigid Heddle Shuttle: This shuttle is 12" long, 1.5" wide and 1" tall, making these shuttles easier to use with rigid heddle weaving. These shuttles also work nicely with floor looms and use a 4" bobbin.

Super Slim Boat Shuttle: This shuttle is 12" long, 3/4" tall, 1.5" wide, and uses a 6" bobbin.

Pencil Shuttle: This shuttle is 12" long x 1" wide x 1" deep.  They are perfect for the end of warp when you are trying to have the least amount of waste as possible.

Bobbins: Boat Shuttles come with one bobbin. Extra bobbins are sold separately. The 6" bobbins fit the super slim shuttles, and the 4" bobbins fit the standard size and rigid heddle shuttles.

Slim Bobbin Winder: Sistermaide slim bobbin winders are made to be used with 6" slim bobbins.

Care for shuttles: The stainless-steel bar can be cleaned with fine wool or SOS pad that is completely dry. You can wax your shuttles as often as you like but the lanolin from your hands will keep them waxed if you use your shuttles often. Because wood and metal are a difficult thing to glue together, sometimes the magnet may fall out. Simply put a drop of superglue in the magnet pocket and drop the magnet back into place and let dry.
