Light and Shadow Placemats
Light and Shadow Placemats
The Light and Shadow Placemats explore contrast, balance, and quiet creativity at the loom. Woven on two separate warps — one light and one dark — this project uses contrasting colors of Beam 3/2 Organic Cotton to create placemats with subtle variation and visual depth.
A unique approach to inlay allows the weaving itself to remain steady and meditative, with minimal interruption as the cloth grows on the loom. Once off the loom, the inlay threads are manipulated by hand to form playful, asymmetrical line drawings, giving each placemat a distinct and expressive character.
This kit is ideal for weavers who enjoy thoughtful processes and hands-on finishing. The combination of simple weaving and post-loom design work makes the project both relaxing and creatively engaging, with results that feel modern, artistic, and personal.
Designed for rigid heddle looms, these placemats make a beautiful addition to everyday meals or a striking handmade accent for special gatherings.

This kit is different from our standard weaving kits. Instead of pre-measured yarn amounts, you’ll receive full-size cones of each color used in the pattern. This means you may have extra yarn beyond what the project requires—perfect for weaving additional fabric or exploring your own variations.
The kit price reflects the inclusion of full-size cones and the expanded creative possibilities they offer.
