Tencel for Warp and Weft
- Tencel is strong enough for both warp and weft, but we suggest these tips for success.
- Use doubled with floating selvedge or add a thin fishing line monofilament thread to the floating selvedges.
- Lightly spritz with water as you advance the warp. Tencel is stronger when wet.
- Use only enough tension to weave and beat, but don't over-tighten the warp.
- Consider mixing Tencel with a mercerized cotton or other non-stretchy fiber in the warp for more strength.
Tencel Care Instructions
Tencel fabric is best cared for by hand washing. Use lukewarm water and a mild soap or detergent, gently cleaning the fabric without harsh scrubbing.
Wondering if Tencel shrinks? It can shrink when exposed to very hot water, so always stick to cool or lukewarm temperatures.
If you choose to machine wash, select the delicate or gentle cycle with cold water. To protect the fabric, consider placing it in a laundry bag. Avoid hot water and high-heat drying, as these can cause shrinkage and damage. For best results, air dry flat or use a low-heat setting if machine drying.
With the right care, Tencel maintains its softness, sheen, and durability—making your woven pieces last beautifully for years to come.
